After a successful journey myself, losing 7 stone over the last year, I discovered certain factors that helped me succeed. One of the biggest questions I get asked on TikTok is, 'How do I get motivated?' For me, motivation goes hand in hand with mental health and mindset. I believe, and have proven, that without the right mindset and motivators, a weight loss journey is almost doomed to failure without these! Here are some things I would do on day one of your journey:
TDEE stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It represents the total number of calories that your body burns in a day, taking into account your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) as well as the calories expended through physical activity and the thermic effect of food digestion.
A low-carb diet is a way of eating that restricts carbohydrate consumption. Typically, it emphasises reducing intake of carbohydrates found in sugary foods, pasta, and bread, and instead focuses on eating whole, unprocessed foods. The diet is high in proteins, fats, and healthy vegetables. So, if like me, two slices of bread accompany most meals, and a Grenade protein bar goes down a treat, maybe a low-carb diet would be harder than I thought.
Protein is a fundamental component of every cell in the body and is crucial for our health due to its wide range of functions. Even just understanding that it exists in every cell of our body is the first indicator of exactly how important protein is. Here are some key reasons as to why protein is so important to our health and especially when on a weight loss journey:
BMR stands for Basal Metabolic Rate. It represents the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic physiological functions while at rest. These functions include breathing, circulation, cell production, and maintaining body temperature.
A calorie deficit diet is a nutritional approach focused on weight loss, where you consume fewer calories than your body burns in a day. This deficit forces your body to use stored fat for energy, leading to weight loss over time. Essentially, it’s about eating less than what your body expends for its daily activities and exercise.
The ketogenic, or keto, diet is a high-fat, moderate-protein, and very low- or even no-carbohydrate diet that aims to put your body in a metabolic state we call ketosis. In ketosis, your body becomes extremely efficient at burning fat for energy. It will also turn fat into something called ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain.
For many years, scientists have studied wine consumption, and there is a general consensus that moderate wine consumption, especially red wine, can be associated with certain health benefits due to its content of antioxidants such as resveratrol, flavonoids, and tannins. These antioxidants can:

It may be the first time you've ever decided it's time to lose weight, or you may have tried multiple times to shed those extra pounds only to find yourself stuck in a never-ending loop of yo-yo dieting. Most of us, at some point in our lives, will embark on a journey to improve our overall health and fitness or decide it's time to lose weight...
If there's one thing I've learnt over the past year after losing 7 stone in weight (44 kg) (100lbs), it's that mental health and physical health go hand in hand. I now understand that every failed diet over the last 20 years was never really about the diet, but more about my mental health and mindset.
